On September 24, HSMAI Las Vegas hosted Beyond the Buzz: AI in Action at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Jascha Kaykas-Wolff, CEO of Visiting Media, facilitated the morning. The goal was one workflow each attendee could run at work the following Monday.
The session built on four levels: a prompt, a project, a loop and a harness. A prompt is one instruction and one answer. A project holds the background so you stop retyping it. A loop runs the work against a written checklist until it clears. A harness is the trigger, inputs and checkpoint that let the work run without you.
Attendees brought laptops and worked in teams. The whole room started with one scenario, a public reply to a three-star review from a repeat guest. Each table then took a scenario from its own discipline:
- Hotel sales: a group RFP response
- Catering sales: a banquet event order
- Marketing: a guest review response
- Revenue management: a competitive-set rate shop
Each table ran a starter prompt as written, found what the AI was missing, wrote a six-item quality checklist and improved the prompt. Industry leaders joined the discussion: Reina Herschdorfer of Caesars Entertainment, Amy Huff of MGM Resorts and Mark Molinari of The Venetian Resort.
Four takeaways
Give AI clear direction. Name the task, the reader, the limits and the form. Limits get skipped most often, and telling the model what to leave out matters as much as telling it what to include.
Build beyond a single prompt. Projects, loops and harnesses turn one-off tasks into repeatable workflows.
Define what good looks like. Write the checklist before the first run, with six items a colleague can mark pass or fail without asking questions.
Keep people in the process. Pricing, commitments and guest communication still need human review and approval.
Thank you to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the Las Vegas Convention Center for hosting, and to HSMAI Las Vegas for the invitation.
