Antonio Arocho, Head of CGI

Tell us about your background and inspiration in your life

Originally from the west coast of Puerto Rico, born and raised close by the beach and surrounded by mountains. Since I was little, I wanted to understand how things and the world works, how all is made. This stayed with me until college where I pursued a BFA in Industrial Design. From the get-go I was drawn to 3D Design. It was a door that opened an infinite field of possibilities and that got me into my Masters Degree where I worked creating Virtual Reality experiences.

In my professional background, I had the opportunity to work with leaders of the field like Microsoft, in which I lead a team in the creation of Mixed Reality shopping experience for designers and stores. Focused in my professional practice, I created and collaborated with international designers and partners to showcase immersive experiences shown in London Fashion Week, art shows, museums and private events. 3D Design, CGI and XR are the future of experiences, I’m thrilled to continue working in the field to push innovation and create beauty to our clients.

What attracted you to working for Visiting Media?

It was an exciting proposal to join Visiting Media, at that point the company was just starting to work with CGI and I knew it was a perfect opportunity to join, innovate and work in the creation of the department to the highest standard as the Head.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere, even in the small details. But looking at the sunrise and the sea are constant sources of inspiration for me.

What innovations are you most excited to explore in the next 1-3 years?

I’m excited to work more in Augmented Reality, Diagramming and NFT’s.

Where do you see CGI being applied in the marketplace / what is a groundbreaking application you feel is going to be a new horizon for CGI?

I believe AR is here to stay, that is a solution that will be adopted across the markets. In hospitality, some incredible progress is being made in Diagramming and perfecting CGI quality to it.

What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

This one is tough, there are so many that I’ve enjoyed making! But I think that The Breakers with their Ocean Lawn is probably my favorite CGI I’ve made to date, while St. Regis Toronto is a very close second.

What’s a career-related accomplishment you’re really proud of?

Creating the first-ever virtual footwear tracking solution in a fashion space using HTC Vive Trackers. It got two global awards.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

Working out every morning.

What is a hobby or interest of yours that people might not expect?

I’m a singer, and I’m really interested in Color Theory and its influence.

What is your favorite beverage?

Coffee for sure.

What is a trip that changed your life, and why?

Relocating to London for a couple of years was the trip that changed my life. I learned a lot internally and professionally worked on some great projects.
