Visiting Media Welcomes Tim Hammer as Vice President of Sales

avatar Chelsea Schroeder

Tim Hammer comes to Visiting Media as a longtime TrueTour™ customer from Kimpton Hotels and Resorts. We’ve asked Tim a few questions to get to know him better and learn why he is excited to lead the Visiting Media sales team and help properties sell their spaces and increase revenue in the new normal.

What attracted you to working for Visiting Media?

Joining Visiting Media was a very easy decision for me.  I was consistently impressed by the technology, innovation, and vision of the company.  But I was equally impressed by all the people that I had worked with on the Visiting Media team.  I really wanted to be part of the team and culture here.

Tell us a little about yourself!

I grew up in the Seattle area with three brothers and we were a competitive family.  We were always playing sports and competing at anything—literally anything and everything was turned into a competition.  I lived in the PNW until heading down to California to attend Chico State. After graduating, I landed an interview at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.  I got a job offer to be a Hyatt Corporate Management Trainee and quickly fell in love with the hospitality world. I worked with Hyatt for a number of years before joining Kimpton for the last decade.  I bounced around a bit, as one does in the hospitality world and now live in Chico, CA with my wife and son, who is turning 8 in a couple of months.

What is your favorite feature/benefit of the TrueTour™ app?

My favorite aspect of TrueTour is that it is a complete one-stop shop for sales teams.  All the amazing features and immersive content comes together in one beautiful, easy-to-use platform that makes it incredibly efficient and effective.

The other thing that really excites me about TrueTour is that it is always evolving.  The customization feature coming in TrueTour X is very exciting to me.  When I was on the hotel side, this is something that I really wanted to see, and was beyond excited when I heard it was coming in TrueTour X.

What energizes you at work?

I get my energy from the people I work with and the true excitement I see from clients and sales professionals when they view a demo of TrueTour.

What’s a career-related accomplishment you’re really proud of?

A few years ago, when I was with Kimpton Hotels I won the company-wide annual Bill Kimpton Award for sales leadership.  It meant a lot because the award is not only about sales, but is also about character, leadership, passion, creativity, and perseverance.  That meant a lot, especially considering the number of amazing people that work for that company.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

It usually involves movement.  Growing up my mom had a saying, “energy promotes energy” (i.e. get off the couch and go play outside and you won’t be so tired anymore).  I guess that stuck, as I need to stay energized to be the most productive.  Usually taking a quick break to move around a bit helps get my energy up.  Then, I go right back to my standing desk and knock stuff out while listening to some tunes.

What work-related app could you never live without? (Besides TrueTour, of course!)

This may be embarrassing (and age me), but Outlook.  If only I could get it to sync with my BlackBerry.

What is a hobby or interest of yours that people might not expect?

I have two hobbies that I picked up in recent years–landscaping and obstacle course races.  A few years ago, I got really into yard work and landscape design and decided to go through an online landscape design program.  At about the same time, and on the total other end of the spectrum, I started doing Spartan races for fun.  It’s impossible to not feel completely alive and energized running one of the races.

What is your favorite vacation destination?

It’s very rare that we go to the same place, as we enjoy traveling to new destinations—whether traveling to cities or camping.  However, our favorite place to go is Yosemite National Park, which is where my wife and I got married.  We also love going to Seattle for weekend getaways.  The Alexis Royal Sonesta Hotel is one of my all-time favorite hotels.  I just love waking up and taking a quick stroll to Pike Place Market for a coffee and pastry and looking out at Puget Sound in the morning.

Do you have any upcoming travel that you’re most looking forward to?

I have a family trip planned for Sunriver, OR.  Like most people, it’s been a long time since we’ve all been together and I’m really looking forward to that.  Honestly, it could be anywhere—I’m just looking forward to being around people.

We’re proud to have Tim as the newest leader within our Sales department and part of our senior Leadership team. Tim’s ambitious and sincere customer-first attitude fits right in with the Visiting Media culture of excellence.
